Voice Memos
Using a recorder attachment for an iPod, you can record your voice during a class lecture or in private and create an audio file or podcast. Faculty can check out an iPod and/or voice recorder attachement throught the Technology Loan Program. Once you create the voice memo on the iPod, follow these directions to modify and share the file. |
- Connect your iPod to your computer with its USB cable.
- If iTunes was not running it should start automatically. If it doesn't, launch it manually.
- You should see a small iPod icon appear in the “Devices” area of iTunes.
- Click on the Voice Memos playlist.
- Click on the recording you want to work with (labeled by date and time).
- Right click on the file and click "Convert selection to MP3".
- If when you right click you don't see Convert selection to MP3, click Edit on the file menu, then Preferences, then Advanced, then Importing, change the Import Using box to MP3 Encoder, repeat step 6.
- Switch to the Recently Added playlist. The MP3 version of the file will be the one with the latest Date Added time.
- Right click on the MP3 file and select Get Info, click on the Info tab, change the file name to something descriptive and and fill information into relevant fields. You can also use the Artwork tab in this window to add a album art graphics that will display when this track is being played in iTunes.
- In the iTunes file menu, click File, and choose “Show Song File” or "Show in Windows Explorer" to bring up a window of the folder containing the audio file.
- From that window you can copy and paste the file to a more convenient location such as your desktop or flash drive.
- The file is now ready to be shared by uploading to iTunesU, WebCT, the Portal Course, email, or any other method.
