iTunes U - Enhanced Audio Files

Creating enhanced audio files from PowerPoint (or other images) using GarageBand

A easier way using ProfCast

Directions for viewing enhanced audio files

1) Create your PowerPoint presentation, note there will be no animations after the presentation is converted, each slide will be one picture (or you could just use image files to begin with).

2) Save your PowerPoint as JPGs.

3) Record audio of your presentation using an iPod with a voice recorder, Sound Recorder on a Windows computer (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment), Audacity, or any other voice recording software.

4) Save your images and your audio file to a flash drive, if necessary, and transport them to a Mac computer with GarageBand. (Available in the Faculty Workspaces)

5) Put your flash drive in the Mac. Double click on the icon for the flash drive to open the folder in Finder.

6) Open GarageBand (the icon that looks like a guitar at the bottom of the screen) and choose New Podcast Episode.

7) Drag your audio file to the Male Voice or Female Voice track.

8) Click the Add Marker button to insert a marker at the beginning of the recording and then move the timeline slider and insert markers at each time when you start a new slide.

9) For each marker, type a Chapter Title (the name of your slide), and drag and drop your image file from the Finder folder to the box and the bottom left where it says "Drag Episode Artwork here".

10) Double click on the image to pan and/or resize so the image fits in the box.

11) Click Share -> Send to iTunes.

12) Within iTunes, click on the file to highlight it, click File -> Show in Finder. Copy the file to your flash drive or upload it to your iTunes U course.
