Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within WebCT. Students are locked into the assessment and are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications.

Respondus LockDown Browser is a client application that is installed to a local computer. It provides a custom interface for the Internet Explorer (Windows) or Safari (Macintosh) software that is already installed on the computer.

To Start Using Respondus LockDown Browser

• Check Start, All Programs, Respondus, LockDown Browser. If it is not there, download and install the browser.
• If faculty want to require students to use the LockDown Browser when taking tests in WebCT click the dropdown arrow next to the Assessment, Edit Properties, Security Properties, check the box for “Browser Restriction”, then Save. See example (pdf). Demo movie.
• If using Respondus to publish assessments, this setting can be made from the “Settings” menu in Respondus, select “Security & Submissions” and then select the “Browser Restriction” checkbox.
